What is Art Therapy

Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy which utilizes the creative process of making art – collage, pencil drawing, painting etc. – can expand and improve one person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Creative expression:

  • Identifies and labels feelings that might be elusive to the individual.
  • Provides access to expressing feelings which are otherwise difficult to discuss.
  • Achieves  insights and greater understanding about feelings, thoughts and behavior.
  • Helps with identifying patterns that can keep an individual “stuck”.
  • Improves focus and awareness.
  • Can help with developing understanding, compassion and acceptance of oneself and others.
  • Provides opportunities for change and growth.
  • Helps one learn how to have fun.
